Thankful Thursday (13 February 2025)

Hello and welcome to the inaugural "Thankful Thursday" post!

Inspired by communities like awesomeers and get_knitted, plus the weekly check-ins and recommendation posts in queerly_beloved and booknook, thankfulthursday is a weekly gratitude check-in community.

Some notes:

• Photos are encouraged but not required
• Nothing is too big, or too small to be grateful for
• Don't harsh anyone else's squee
• That said, you're not allowed to celebrate here when other people are harmed

What do I mean by that last one?
Well, as an example, tw transphobia if you support the recent decision to remove the X gender marker option from U.S. passport applications and the requirement that all identity documentation match assigned sex at birth, you can keep that to yourself - and you should feel bad about it.
What I'm saying is that hatred and bigotry will not be tolerated here.

Other than that, let's share our joys - small and large, personal and political.

Grateful for my cat

Cats are the best. Do you want to share any pictures or tell us about them, like name and age?

He's called Mr Smith, he's 18.5, pure black British shorthair and blind (since he was 2.5).
I'd had a bad day, and he sensed this and came to sat on me and just purred.

I am immensely grateful for disability justice scholars and advocates, especially Alice Wong and Devon Price.

I've read (or at least, skimmed most of) Price's Laziness Does Not Exist and did find it helpful, so I'll ditto that gratefulness!

I am grateful for my new therapist, who I suddenly got assigned to when my previous one moved too far away to continue at the practice I go to. I am clicking well with the new therapist and she is very supportive in multiple ways. So even though I wasn't expecting to be changing therapists at this time, I'm glad it happened because I think this new therapist will help me better my life even more than old therapist did.

Also, grateful for old therapist's help in getting me to where I am now. It's an improvement over where I was!

Finding a new therapist can be so stressful - especially if it's sudden or unexpected - so I'm glad to hear it worked out easily!

I am thankful that I can ride a bicycle, and that I live on the outskirts of town so when I am out for a ride there are often birds and things and occasionally there'll be a whole kangaroo just standing there watching the world go by.

I'm grateful that my child has a mind of his own (and the ability to express it). Even though it drives me batty all the time sometimes ;)
